Custom Framing

Custom museum-quality framing
is available on all maps we sell!

The proper way to safely store and display your antique map is to frame it using conservation framing techniques. Sometimes called archival framing, conservation framing essentially seals your art in an acid-free and UV-protective environment that both enhances the map’s beauty and preserves it against nearly all environmental dangers for many years to come.

Although growing in popularity, conservation framing with a traditional framer can be extraordinarily expensive – often as much as two or three times regular costs. This is why Heirloom Maps offers its own conservation framing services. You will find that our specialized framing service is not only of the highest conservation quality, but also priced well below what the majority of commercial framers would charge for even a non-conservation framing project.

Heirloom Maps uses only museum-grade materials when framing: acid-free mats and backing & UV-blocking acrylic (much lighter and nearly unbreakable, unlike traditional glass). This combination of materials effectively seals your antique map and protects it from the elements which can deteriorate the map.

In addition to the best materials, Heirloom Maps is also an expert in putting together just the right combination of moulding and matting materials. We’ve framed more than 500 antique maps over the years, and our experience shows in the many satisfied customers with whom we’ve worked. Double and triple mats, V-grooves and French-matting are examples of some of the custom work we provide in providing just the right framing combination to complement your Heirloom Map.
